A. ISO 9001 is the only standard in the ISO 9001 family for which certification is offered. ISO 9001 certification is important for organisations offering products or services to the customers because of the reasons mentioned here:
• Satisfied Customers: ISO 9001 certification confirms that the certified organisation has implemented a Quality Management System to ensure that the product/service offered by the organisation meets customer expectations.
• Enter New Markets Easily: Since ISO 9001 is an international standard, certified organisations need not spend time and money on location-specific registrations and certifications.
• Gain Competitive Advantage: Customers, clients and other stakeholders trust ISO certified organisations more than uncertified ones. Therefore, an ISO 9001 certification gives you an edge over your competition

A. There are two types of audits required for ISO 9001 certification:
• Internal Audits: Once an organisation implements the QMS, internal staff trained for internal audits must check the QMS and verify that the system is working as per expectations
• External Audits: When the internal audits are complete, the organisation must get in touch with an ISO certification company to check for compliance and issue an ISO 9001 certification if there are no major non-conformities
A. ISO 9001 has been revised a few times ever since it was introduced by ISO in 1987. Organisations who wish to get ISO 9001 certified need to implement the QMS requirements of the standard and get audit from a certifying body. Once it finds that the former is compliant with the standard, it issues an ISO 9001: 2015 certificate. And, the organisation is then labelled as ISO 9001: 2015 certified.
The current version of the standard is ISO 9001: 2015. When the ISO 9001 standard is revised in the future, all ISO 9001: 2015 certified organisations will have to implement the new version within the transition period (three years from the date of release of the new version) or else their certificate will not be valid.
To maintain their certified status, they need to get in touch with a certification body to transition to the new version. The ISO certification company will help them implement the new version, identify organisational gaps which need to be addressed to meet the new requirements and develop an implementation plan. Then, it will audit the company and issue an ISO 9001 certificate for compliance.
